One endpoint. Every assistant.

Cosmic Budget runs a personal Model Context Protocol server tied to your account. Point any MCP-capable assistant at it and your money becomes part of the conversation.

1

Pick a paid plan

The personal MCP is available on every paid Cosmic Budget plan — there's no free-tier access, so your financial endpoint always sits behind a real account.

2

Add the hosted endpoint

Generate an assistant token in Settings and paste the hosted endpoint plus bearer token into your assistant's MCP configuration. It's scoped to you, and you choose read-only or budget-edit access.

Just ask

“Am I over budget?” “What did I spend on groceries?” “How much is left to spend this week?” Your assistant pulls the real numbers and answers in plain language.

Most clients take a single block in their MCP config:
hermes config.yaml
mcp_servers:
  cosmic_budget:
    url: "https://cosmicbudget.com/api/mcp"
    headers:
      Authorization: "Bearer cb_asst_YOUR_TOKEN"
    timeout: 60
    connect_timeout: 30
Create an assistant token from Settings → Assistant Access, replace cb_asst_YOUR_TOKEN, and your assistant is live.
The toolbox

Everything your assistant can do

Seven focused tools — four that read your finances, three that can shape your budget when you decide to trust them.

Read your money

Safe, on by default. These tools can look but never touch.

Read-only · enabled by default
list_accounts

Account names, types, and balances across checking, savings, credit, and investments — with card and account numbers redacted to safe masks.

balancesaccount typesredacted masks
search_transactions

Search and filter your spending history by merchant, category, or amount — with capped date ranges and result sizes so queries stay fast and bounded.

merchant & categorycapped ranges
get_budget_status

Every budget category with its limit and current progress, so your assistant can tell you exactly where you stand and what's left to spend.

get_spending_summary

Aggregated totals rolled up by category or date range — the fastest way to answer “how much did I spend on…” without paging through transactions.

Shape your budget

Opt-in. Enable only for assistants you trust to edit your budget.

Edit access · off until you allow it
create_budget_category

Spin up a new spending category — or hide one you no longer track — so your structure evolves through conversation instead of menus.

create & hide
set_budget_amount

Create a budget for a category or update an existing limit — “bump groceries to $750 next month” becomes a single sentence.

create & update limits
remove_budget_category

Retire a category you've stopped using. It's hidden from your budget, while the history behind it stays intact for your records.

non-destructivehistory preserved

You stay in control. Editing tools never move money or touch your accounts — at most they reshape budget categories and budget amounts, and only for assistants you've explicitly trusted.

Ask the way you'd ask a friend

No dashboards to learn. Real questions, real answers — pulled live from your own data.

?“How much did I spend on groceries vs dining last month?”
usesget_spending_summary
In May you spent $642 on groceries and $388 on dining — groceries ran about 1.7× your dining. Both stayed within budget.
?“Am I over budget anywhere this month?”
usesget_budget_status
One category: Shopping is at $415 / $350$65 over. Everything else is on track, with dining the next closest at 97%.
?“What were my biggest transactions this week?”
usessearch_transactions
Your three largest were Apartment Rent $1,850, Whole Foods $86.42, and Trader Joe's $54.18. Want them grouped by category?
?“Set my dining budget to $450 for next month.”
usesset_budget_amount
Done — Dining is now $450 starting June. This used an editing tool, so it only ran because you trusted this assistant to change budgets.
…and plenty more you can just ask
?How much did I spend on coffee this year? ?What's my biggest spending category? ?How much do I have left to spend this week? ?What subscriptions am I paying for? ?Show me everything over $100 last month. ?Did my grocery spending go up this month? ?What's my total across all accounts? ?How close am I to my savings goal? ?What did I spend at Amazon in May?
Built for trust

Your money. Your boundaries. Every time.

Connecting an AI assistant to your finances should make you feel safer, not exposed. The Cosmic Budget MCP is designed around least-privilege access — your assistant sees what it needs to be useful and nothing more.

Encrypted connections · scoped assistant access · disconnect in one click.

Read-only out of the box

Assistant connections can only look at first. Editing tools stay dark until you deliberately turn them on for a specific assistant.

Redacted by design

Account and card numbers are returned as safe masks like ••4821 — never the full digits.

Bounded queries

Date ranges and result sizes are capped, so a single prompt can never sweep your entire financial history at once.

No money movement, ever

There are no tools to transfer funds, pay bills, or touch your bank. Editing tools are limited to budget categories and budget amounts.

Pricing

One plan. Your whole household — and your assistant.

The personal MCP is part of Cosmic Budget, not an add-on. Subscribe to any paid plan and the endpoint is yours.

Questions

What people ask about the MCP

What is MCP, and why does it matter for my money?
MCP — the Model Context Protocol — is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to outside tools and data in a structured, permissioned way. Cosmic Budget runs an MCP server for your account, so instead of you exporting CSVs or pasting screenshots, your assistant reads your real, current finances directly and answers with the actual numbers.
Which assistants can I connect?
Any MCP-capable client. That includes Claude, ChatGPT, Hermes, and OpenClaw, developer tools like Cursor, launchers like Raycast, and anything else that speaks MCP. You add the hosted endpoint, https://cosmicbudget.com/api/mcp, plus your bearer token to the assistant's MCP settings.
Can my assistant move money or pay bills?
No. There is no tool to transfer funds, pay anyone, or change account details. The only tools that write anything at all are budget tools — they create or hide categories and update budget amounts. Even those are off by default and only run for assistants you've explicitly trusted.
What exactly can it see?
Account names, types, and balances (with numbers redacted to masks like ••4821), your transaction history within capped date ranges, and your budget categories and progress. It sees the same money you see in the app — never raw credentials, and never your full account numbers.
How do I turn it off?
Open Settings → Assistant Access and revoke the token, or create a new token to rotate that assistant connection. Disconnecting is immediate and never touches your underlying data.

Your money, finally in the conversation.

Stop pasting screenshots into chat windows. Connect Cosmic Budget once and let your assistant answer from the real numbers.
